Wasatch Music Coaching Academy and the road to Hamilton.
WMCA was founded by David Murphy in late 2003, with a dream of offering music to students in a society where the arts are disappearing from the schools, an opportunity to learn and enjoy their talents in a real world music experience. their staff is made up of some of the finest performers and music instructors along the Wasatch Front, exposing students to all genres of music, with a strong emphasis on performing. In addition to learning how to play most all instruments and including vocals, they have opportunities to study music production, composition, arranging, theory, and improvisation.
Their most recent concert production of 26 selections from the Lin Manuel Miranda Broadway masterpiece “Hamilton”, is direct proof that nothing can stop what can be done when the meeting of great young prepared talent fuses with a dedicated staff with a big dream! The ages of the students range from 13 to 17 years old.
For the past 6 years, Wasatch Music Coaching Academy has done a “rock musical revue” in the spring. They realized in March of last year, as they put the finishing touches on their 2016 spring production, that as Hamilton became a miracle in New York City, they had the ability to actually take it on with a concert version, for their 2017 musical review. Soon, ten of their most capable vocalists and 7 of some of their most advanced instrumentalists bought into that dream. For 9 months, which included a few tunes performed for the 2016 Utah Arts Festival, the 2016 9th and 9th Festival, and the Grand Opening of the Eccles Theater in fall 2016 as well, they worked and worked for their “Shot” at Hamilton, which culminated in an over capacity crowd at the Post Theater on April 29, 2017.
